Firstly, we would like to thank The FA for giving both clubs the opportunity to complete the tie with the Laws of the Game correctly applied. As we have maintained throughout, this was never about challenging a referee’s judgement or about Woodford Town against Mulbarton Wanderers. It arose from a technical misapplication of the Laws of the Game, which The FA reviewed, and ultimately determined that it required the fixture to be replayed.
We would also like to put on record the very good relationship between the two clubs throughout both games. Mulbarton were gracious in victory last night, just as we accept defeat and congratulate them on progressing to the Third Qualifying Round. This was never about Woodford against Mulbarton, and we wish them well against Gloucester City.
We would also like to acknowledge the match officials from the original fixture. Both the Referee and Assistant Referee held their hands up and apologised to the Club for the error. We accepted those apologies then, and reiterate that now. Officials are human, mistakes happen, and there has never been any ill feeling from Woodford Town towards those involved.
Finally, we are incredibly proud of our players and staff. Last season they took Woodford to the Third Round Qualifying of the Emirates FA Cup, and this season they have given the Club another memorable run, once again giving a very good account of themselves on the national stage.
We would obviously have loved the journey to continue, but we leave the competition proud of the team and grateful to everyone who has supported us throughout the run.
Congratulations again to Mulbarton Wanderers and best of luck in the next round.
