Woodford are back on this road, this time travelling up the A12 to Colchester as we take on Stanway Rovers on match day four in the Essex Senior League.
Our last meeting with tomorrow's hosts came in our final game of last campaign, in the Peter Butcher Memorial Trophy. Unfortunately, we fell to a 1-0 defeat away from home, meaning our season culminated with a semi-final loss.
The Woods
We boast a 100% record in the league so far in the 2024/25 season, having beaten Benfleet, Sawbridgeworth Town and Halstead Town all away from home. Throughout those three fixtures, we have scored seven and conceded zero, whilst we sit top of the league.
A victory on Saturday would mean we extend the record for our best ever start to an ESL campaign, and it would stand at four victories from four games.
Our opposition
Our hosts have played one more game than us in the league so far this season. Despite this, they still sit two points below us, but have only lost one of their opening four league games, and that came on the opening day.
Their additional game came at Crofters End, one week ago. Rovers edged out an enthralling 11-goal thriller, winning by seven goals to four, and a victory tomorrow would see them leapfrog us.
Out of the five games they have played in all competitions so far, they boast a winning record at home, but have failed to win on three occasions on the road.
