MATCH REPORT | Woodford Town 2-1 White Ensign

Harrison Nathan15 Mar - 11:30

We returned to winning ways at home this afternoon!

Rob Gammons' Woods side produced a second-half turnaround to overcome White Ensign at Ashton's on Saturday afternoon, with Marko Protic continuing his good run of form, bagging a brace to set us on our way to another three points.

A dissapointing first half performance produced plenty of frustration at the half time whsitle, with Woodford Town trailing following Riley Weir's 12th-minute strike for the visitors. We failed to create many chances, with our closest chance seeing Protic fire wide after linking up well with Jibran Ahmed down the left-hand side. Whilst Gammons did not make any changes at the break, his words at the break inspired his side to produce a dominant second half.

Following a good start, we repaed the rewards as Protic fired home and equaliser with 54 minutes on the clock. Ahmed went on a fantastic solo run, weaving in and out of the onrushing defenders, before cutting inside and picking out our number nine with a superb pass, Protic brought it down, keot his composure, leaving one defender on the floor before slotting past Jordan Williams in the Ensign goal.

We used the momentum to build on the equaliser, and after a well-worked free-kick routine was only cleared as far as substitute Dimi Christou, his cross struck the hand of an Ensign defender, leading the man in the middle to point to the spot. Up stepped Protic, who fired into the bottom corner - a brilliant strike, which Williams was unable to reach despite diving the right way.

The remainder of the game saw us keep going with our assertion on the clash, and it looked as though we would comfortably reach the full-time whistle with the one-goal lead intact. However, in the eighth added minute - out of the fifteen awarded - Pharrell Chinyere was called into action, producing an incredible save with his foot to deny the visitors, who had broken through one-on-one.

Three points for Woodford sees them maintain their position in sixth, sitting four points off SOUL Tower Hamlets, who occupy the final play-off spot and have five games in hand.

Starting XI: Chinyere (GK); Weekes, Mitchell-Nelson, Kebe, Anderson; Owusu (C), Hervel, Lusardi; Effah, Protic, Ahmed.

Subsititutes: Christou, Odetoyinbo, Solomon, Runham, S. May-Parrott.
