MATCH REPORT | Woods pipped by late Wakering winner

MATCH REPORT | Woods pipped by late Wakering winner

Harrison Nathan26 Oct - 10:24

Great Wakering Rovers left it late to snatch all three points on Saturday afternoon.

Woodford Town, looking to see the back of a torrid run of form, travelled to Burroughs Park to take on a Great Wakering Rovers side who were tipped to win the Essex Senior League before the campaign got underway, yet have not lived up to those pre-season expectations. However, on Saturday, it was Wakering who snatched all three points at the death.

After a cagey first half, which saw both sides have dominant spells, the hosts opened the scoring with 54 minutes on the clock thanks to Max Gnandi's strike, but just ten minutes later, they were pegged back to level terms through a simply stunning volley from Pedro Carvalho - making his second Woods debut having rejoined the Club earlier in the week.

Despite the equaliser, it was Wakering who pushed on for the winner, and it came right at the death, as Luke Hirst's goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time secured all three points for Marcus Bowers' side.

Starting XI: Arnauchkov (GK); Owusu (C), Kirwan-Meade, M. Agboola, John; Jewers, Toussaint, Okunja; Carvalho, Sotoyinbo (Adelani - 90'), Gokou.

Unusued substitutes: Steele, Christou, Ahmed, Mitchell-Nelson.
