Woodford Town travelled over the A406 to local rivals West Essex on Tuesday afternoon, looking to make it two wins from two at the beginning of the Essex Senior League season, and they did exactly that!
Despite falling behind in the first half after an Oliseh Okuguni strike, Shane Baptiste’s side regrouped at the interval, and after fifteen second-half minutes, had the opportunity to equalise. Up stepped Ollie Sotoyinbo from the spot, and he calmly slotted away the penalty, taking his tally for the season to three goals after two games.
That goal was the beginning of a memorable midweek comeback for The Woods, who were now pushing for the breakthrough, where some luck would have been greatly appreciated after it seemed like the ball just would not find the back of the net. With twelve minutes left on the clock, West Essex’s Ed Plackett saw a shot deflect wickedly off him, wrong-footing everyone before cushioning into the back of the net! 1-2.
With the hosts chasing the game in the dying stages, Norman Kebi sealed all three points with his 93rd-minute goal, sending Woodford Town back to Ashton’s with all three points.
