Two second-half goals saw Hullbridge Sports head back up the A12 with all three points in our Essex Senior League clash on Saturday.
Neither side had much joy in the first half of what was a cagey and scrappy affair. The closest either of the two teams came to breaking the deadlock occurred as Jibran Ahmed struck the outside of the post. Our number fifteen turned one defender, before weaving past another, with his curling effort agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock.
The second half saw a fired up visiting side and eight minutes in, Kojo Akpeteng gave them the lead. Going through one-on-one with Martin Arnauchkov, he kept his cool and slotted home. 1-0. We never reinforced any hope going forward, and struggled to create chances, before the game was put to be in added time. Leo Clark’s half-volley took a wicked deflection, wrong-footing Arnauchkov before nestling into the bottom corner.
The Woods are now sitting in eight place in the table, and will be looking to pick up a first league win under Rob Gammons when they take on top-of-the-table Little Oakley on Wednesday at home.
